The christian Reactions
Upon the release of the Harry Potter series, Christian followers exploded with outrage and anger at the content in the Potter novels, throwing words like Satanism, the occult, and the Devil around when these books came up. It only seems fit that many groups, organizations, and companies of Christian faith would do the same.
Christian Books
Publishing companies exploded with books about this explosive series, including children's books, like the comic shown above taken from J.T. Crick's The Nervous Witch, to discourage youth from watching and reading Harry Potter.
Analytic novels, such as Jesus Potter Harry Christ
by Derek Murphy, went into the similarities between Harry Potter and Jesus Christ in an unbiased way, accepting that Jesus was created based off predated myths.
The Changing Opinions
Every single source of media one could think of was at the disposal of Christian protestors, using all of these sources to work against the Harry Potter series. News articles can be found all over the internet, as well as in newspaper archives, as well as news reports, novels, and interviews alike. The Pope himself advised followers to avoid these novels. It was not until the later books were released, using scripture, showing biblical characters, and themes that the Christian protestors calmed down in the media. Many Christians still believe today that those books should be banned all over the world for teaching children to appreciate magic and join the occult or Wicka covens, however many of these protestors have realized just how much Harry Potter is a Christian tale, and retracted their earlier hatred for the series.
J.K. Rowling
J.K. Rowling kept quiet about her religious views until the final installment of the story had been released. In later interviews she released to the press that she is actually a practicing Christian, and attends church regularly. She claims to have not released this information because she didn't want to give away the epic ending to her books, which she thought would have been obvious if readers knew it was a Christian tale.
