The Prophet
Although professor Trelawny was thought of as kind of batty in both the books and the movies, she was still what we could now connect as a prophet. In fact the very prophet that made the prediction during the first Wizarding War, that a young boy born at the end of the seventh month would be marked by the Dark Lord to end Voldemort for good. Unlike her ancestors, Trelawny's abilities are flawed, causing her to enter a trans like state while making her prophecies, resulting in no memory of the event whatsoever. Despite her small role in the movies and books, it is her prophecies that cause the entire story to play out the way it did.
"The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord approaches ... born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies ... and the Dark Lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark Lord knows not ... and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives ... the one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord will be born as the seventh month dies ..." - Sybil Trelawny
This was the first prophecy recorded by Professor Trelawny. It is predicting that at the end of July a baby boy shall be born. This boy shall be born to parent who have defied Voldemort three times, and shall be marked by the Dark Lord himself. This being said, we could assume that another boy could have just as easily been marked by the Dark Lord, and Harry could have grown up a different way. In the books, it is suggested that another person the Dark Lord could have marked was Neville Longbottom, as he falls under the all the criteria.
"It will happen tonight. The Dark Lord lies alone and friendless, abandoned by his followers. His servant has been chained these twelve years. Tonight, before midnight... the servant will break free and set out to rejoin his master. The Dark Lord will rise again with his servant's aid, greater and more terrible than ever he was. Tonight... before midnight... the servant... will set out... to rejoin... his master..." - Sybil Trelawny
The second prophecy predicts the escape of Peter Pettigrew, who was disguised as a rat in the Weasley home for 12 years. This prophecy occurs in the third installment of the series, where we learn the truth about what really happened the night of the Potter's murder. This prophecy also lets viewers and readers know what was expected to eventually come in the series: the rise of Voldemort.
These are the only two known prophecies recorded by Sybil Trelawny.
